LA Lockdown Volume 1

Welcome to the first edition of my new quarantine-inspired mailbag. I’ll be posting these every Monday for the foreseeable future, covering anything and everything.

“I’m kicking this robot’s ass in ping-pong.”

Kat and I got an Oculus Go VR headset for Christmas in 2018 but hadn’t really used it that much until a couple weeks ago. One of the games I purchased is called Racket Fury, in which you compete against robots with fire coming out of their butts in table tennis. The bold line above is a direct quote from me last night. If you have the money, virtual reality is definitely something to look in to. It’s not as advanced as The Oasis depicted in Ready Player One, but that can’t be too far away as technology progresses.

Titan Up

Anyone who knows me is aware I’m a diehard Titans fan. And I trust general manager Jon Robinson more than anyone else on the planet. But after moving 5-time Pro Bowler Jurrell Casey to Denver for a 7th-round pick to clear salary cap space, he needs to make a big splash. That splash’s name is Jadeveon Clowney. Tennessee added EDGE Vic Beasley when free agency opened last week, but there’s plenty of cap room to bring in Clowney. He’s waiting for an offer of $20+ million per year, which is ridiculous for a guy coming off a 3-sack season. But…I believe the Titans should take a shot and go all in. After nearly two decades of nothing, the squad knocked the Patriots and Ravens out of the playoffs on the road and held a 10-point lead in Kansas City before succumbing to MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Title windows don’t stay open forever. The Titans can’t afford to lose out on Clowney. Get it done, JRob.

The People’s Champ

Brandon Kravitz currently holds every single available job in Orlando sports media. He’s also the commissioner and defending champ of Thunderdome, my main fantasy football league. How did he do so? After a crushing defeat at the hands of yours truly in the 2018 title game, Kravitz sat back and watched Christian McCaffrey and Michael Thomas set records at the running back and wide receiver positions, respectively, en route to his third Thunderdome title and the belt that goes with it.

In our league, every team keeps six players. His team, Catch 22, will start off the year with McCaffrey, Thomas, WR Davante Adams, RB Leonard Fournette, and then probably WR DeVante Parker and TE Darren Waller. Everyone else in the league is looking up, but I’m coming back for the title starting this fall. Or next fall. Whenever football and our world resumes.
