How to change your life in 2022

Plan – Review – Reset

New year. New resolutions. This is the time of year we all sit down to plan the year ahead. Making commitments and marking our calendars. We all got big plans to take charge of our lives.

Despite our best efforts things don’t go as planned. At a certain point, life takes its hold. Even with the unpredictable life, it is human nature to set plans and goals. It’s the human desire for life that makes us plan the unknown, the unseen future. To move ahead and have hope for tomorrow.

To have a better tomorrow. We should look at our past as well. Take a moment to pause and reflect.

Reflecting on our failures and success of our past. How did we fail? and what did we learn from that? What was successful? and how? What worked and what didn’t work?

What are the things that we have learned and the perspective we have gained not only can help us see how far we have come but also helps us to plan our future.

What were your goals for this year?

You wrote them down at the beginning of the year. Now, it’s time to see what worked and what didn’t. Which ones fell aside because you no longer want to persuade them. Also, the goals you accomplish without setting. The ones which just tagged along the way.

It’s totally normal if you can’t get any of these goals done. Think about how you can still achieve them next.

What goals still apply this year? Can you reset them into goals that you can accomplish next year?

What was challenging for you? What did you learn?

Here you need to be very open, raw, and honest with yourself.

Ask yourself — what really challenged me this year? What changed me?

And from those challenges what did you learn?

How can you use this learning in the future? How can you prepare yourself if faced with similar challenges in the future?

Establish your goals by setting systems. The what, when, and how of it.

What are you gonna do? When are you gonna do it and how will it be done? and why? — how does this support you?

When you have set in the systems, occasionally pause and ask yourself what is working and what is not working. Tweek in a little on what is not working and improve a little on what is working.

You don’t have to start afresh for the new year. Take what is working and leave or fix what is not.

The key is to track your process. check-in from time to time. Review yourself and improve. When I look back this year I see some wins and some losses and it's totally okay to me. I am not perfect, but I am trying to be better every day. That is what I aim to be, just to be a little better today than I was yesterday. The idea here is to be curious and not to be a perfectionist.
