Failure is One of the APIs to Success Endpoint

Towards the end of my teen ages, I developed an interest in programming. When I wanted to go the university, I had an opportunity to study Computer Science, but I didn’t make use of it. Why? That is a story for another day…

Before I started the program, I had decided I was going to give all it takes to learn JavaScript, and by the end of the six-month program, I achieved my goal. With what I learned, I was able to build some cool projects (a Pixel Art Maker and a Card Matching Game). Initially, I had wanted to work professionally as a Frontend developer for some time, before I delve into Backend Programming. But my plans changed for good when I saw a job opening to become an Andela Fellow. In the job description, Andela stated that “…you don’t need a programming experience…” with this, I was encouraged to apply despite that fact I don’t have neither a professional frontend working experience nor a backend programming experience. But I realized I made a mistake in interpreting that statement when I got into Andela Cycle 41 two-week Bootcamp. The mistake I made was that I might not need a programming experience, but a programming knowledge is needed. Do you agree with me that the two clauses are different?

During the Bootcamp, we were required to build a Fullstack application. To cut the long story short, I didn’t succeed in getting admitted into the fellowship program. I believe you can guess the reason — I couldn’t meet up with the backend skills demand (fair enough). Since I have understood my skill gaps, I used a lot of written and video tutorials to learn about API development using Node and Express. After some time, I felt quite confident about building REST APIs. You know what? I am currently in the Andela Bootcamp for Cycle 43, and I hope to get in this time around.
