Request for Impact

Parsing through startup news every day for the past few years, I see many of the new startups on the block, especially in Chicago. Most startup founders are focused on money-making instead of innovating. Creating a new clothing or cosmetic brand is fine, and can make you good money, but if you have the capacity, you should focus on fixing a bigger issue. Often, startup founders are the most innovative people, and if they redirect their focus to issues in healthcare, the environment, poverty, or transportation, real progress can be made. Elon Musk shows us how to do this with Tesla, Boring Co., and Space X, and exemplifies how for-profit companies can make substantial progress (more so than governments). This may sting, but another cosmetic brand won’t change the world.
