Decisiveness is a skill that allows you to act effectively in various situations. It is a composite of knowledge, skills, experience, motives and relationships. Decisiveness is characteristic for people who are ready to take responsibility without hesitation in difficult life situations and make important decisions on their own. Such persons do not hesitate, they go and act.

Decisiveness and vigor help in acquiring new knowledge and experience. Throughout life, a person makes many responsible decisions and faces an important choice. He or she chooses from several alternatives the best and most effective method to achieve the goals, discarding the inefficient ones.

Decisiveness gives people the opportunity to be the captains of their own destiny, to understand what is a priority for them and what is not. All decisions and actions of a person shape their future, create opportunities for personal and professional growth.

A fearless step towards change

In the business world, decisiveness is essential to succeed. To get ahead of competitors and lead the company to prosperity is usually possible for those who confidently proceed to the goal, act boldly and unconventionally.

In 1984, Zhang Ruimin, a young city administration official, was appointed the managing director of Qingdao refrigerator factory. The Chinese enterprise was going through hard times: it had large debts, and the quality of the products was far from great.

Ruimin made a real upheaval to remedy the situation. After studying many complaints from customers, the director conducted an audit of the warehouse and found 76 refrigerators with manufacturing defects.

Then Ruimin gave the employees sledgehammers and ordered them to smash all the defective products. The team was in disarray, because the cost of one refrigerator exceeded the annual salary of a factory worker.

However, the boss insisted that the order must be fulfilled. Ruimin said that the company would not be able to stay in the market if it continued to produce such bad quality products.

This moment was a turning point in the history of the enterprise. Under Ruimin’s leadership, product quality improved, the product range was expanded, and overseas trade was established. In 1986, the plant stopped to be unprofitable and began to make a profit.

Thus, Haier Corporation was born — a world-famous brand in the household appliances market with an annual turnover of tens of billions of dollars.

Never stand still

Decisiveness comes to the rescue. It fends off fears and doubts, helps not to cling to the past, but to create the future with brave deeds.

Never stand still! Do more than what is required of you! Think big and be proactive whenever possible!
