Bird Song

Whither flew the songbird

aloft to cloudy sky;

A voice I heard twas singing

a resonant goodbye.

Ere we look and seek the sound

Yet naught can match the song;

It echoes, soft sweet innocence

as death cast shadows long.

Whither flew the songbird;

By right we seek its voice?

Gone, or strangled, shut away

Misbegotten choice.
