It was tough to imagine than only a couple of weeks ago this house, Rick McDonnell’s house, had been turned into a crime scene.

We thought it strange Rick hadn’t even tried to clean up the bloody splatters on the couches and chairs, the vast dried pools of blood on the carpet. From the looks of things, he hadn’t tried to erase these horrid reminders of his family’s deaths.

It wasn’t until we got to his bedroom that we finally began to understand why.

Rick’s laptop was opened on a worktable in his bedroom, he and Mary’s bedroom, and it was still on. There were a few notepads beside his wireless mouse, and stacks of books and magazines pushed against the wall.

“You think you can get into his laptop?”

“Uh yeah, Henry, if I knew his password.”

“I’m sure he wrote it down somewhere. Check in that drawer.”

“How the hell are you so sure he wrote it down?”

“Because he always writes it down princess. Just like all the rest of us, he’s got way too many passwords to try and remember.”

“Damn.”

“What?”

“I hate it when you’re right. Okay, gimme a second. What are we looking for?”

“Anything that jumps out at you. Check his email.”

“Hmmm. This is interesting.”

“You going to share with your partner, princess?”

“Oh like how you shared the info about you calling Becca? That kind of share?”

“You need to step off, Alex…uh, Johnson, and let that go.”

“Okay old man, it seems Rick had some email exchanges between a Maureen Hughes and him. He keeps calling her Sis.”

“As in sister?”

“Well, aren’t you just the brightest bulb in the lamp? Of course, as in sister.”
