Being Rich Does Not Make You Successful.

Can we stop equating the two?

I see it all the time, especially on this platform. Writers are always coming up with more ways that they can teach you how to be successful.

Most of the time this involves the avenue you can take to make more money. It’s sometimes really difficult for me to read articles like this.

I think the core of the issue hits me in my pride.

I have a good job and I really enjoy what I do. I work with people who range from being suicidal to having severe and persistent mental illnesses like schizophrenia.

It can be mentally taxing, but the reward of working with this population outweighs the feelings of stress that the job can sometimes bring.

Not that you need an entire tour of what I do professionally, but the point I’m making is that I would consider myself very successful.

I don’t fall into the upper class, own my own business, and I’m not a genius by any means.

I simply use the skills that I’ve developed, and have been gifted, to do the best work that I can.

I don’t consider someone to be successful if they’ve simply inherited an income, however.

Yet, when I hear people attempt to relate to success, they seem to always be focused on money.

I get it. Money is a huge driving factor for a lot of things. It’s essential to the economy, and it is the ultimate measuring stick for whether or not a business is successful. So, maybe that’s where everyone gets it from. I don’t know.

The point is, you don’t have to make a lot of money to be successful. You could be below the poverty line and consider yourself successful. It’s mostly subjective.

If you’re in the middle of feeling discouraged, unimportant, or unsuccessful, ask yourself some questions.
